Game 1 Feb 13: from the Seattle PI: SAMMAMISH -- Hannah Ostic hadn't hit a shot all night. Her passes were crisp. Her defense was solid. But her jumpers just wouldn't go down. So what? Ostic, Eastlake's fiery 5-foot-5 point guard, caught fire and knocked down all three of her shots and 3 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter to power the Wolves to a 56-53 win over Redmond in a Sea-King 4A District Tournament game Wednesday. By scoring all 10 of her points in a back-and-forth final frame, Ostic helped move Eastlake one game closer to its first state tournament appearance since 1997. The Wolves (15-6) play fourth-ranked Ballard (19-2) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Juanita for an automatic berth. "Emotions are what usually gets a team," Ostic said, "but tonight we were really composed. We all came together."

Sophomore Alyssa Charlston had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Eastlake, which also got 11 points from Ellie Martinez and 10 from Melissa Pixler, who scored all 10 in a bruising first half. A straightaway 3-pointer by Charlston gave the Wolves their first lead of the second half at 35-32 with 1:50 left in the third, and two jumpers by Ostic stretched the margin to 41-37 with 5:28 to go. Redmond fired back with a couple baskets of its own, and a 3-pointer by Chandler Jones gave the Mustangs a one-point lead at 44-43 with 4:09 remaining. After a banked 3-ball by Redmond's Alicia Valentine tied the score at 49 with 54 seconds left, Ostic knocked down two free throws to put Eastlake on top once again.

With 26 seconds to play, Jena Boyle added two more free throws -- her only points of the game -- to give the Wolves a four-point lead at 53-49. Redmond scored, and Ostic missed a pair of free throws with 14.1 seconds left that could have iced the game. Charlston chased down the long rebound, however, and knocked down both foul shots to make it 55-51 and essentially seal the deal. "She does that every game," Eastlake coach Scott Sartorius said of Charlston's hustle. Courtney Martin scored 22 points to pace Redmond (15-7), which plays Lake Washington (11-10) Saturday at 3 p.m. at Juanita in a loser-out contest. The Mustangs beat the Kangaroos 62-55 on Jan. 11 in their only meeting of the season.

Parrott held Rachel Harris of Roosevelt to two points — eight below her average. Harris had scored 22 and 15 against Redmond in two previous games, both Roosevelt victories. Roosevelt (18-5) will stay home after advancing to the state tournament three of the previous four seasons, with a state title in 2004. Courtney Martin had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Mary Petrie added 12 points and eight rebounds for Redmond. The Mustangs play Eastlake in another loser-out game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Juanita. Game 5 Feb 23 From the Daily Columbian -- The Skyview girls basketball team answered the call to the Tacoma Dome with authority. Again. The Storm won their second consecutive win-or-go-home playoff game, rolling past Redmond  58-32 Saturday night at HeritageHigh School. The win earned Skyview a berth to this week’s Class 4A state girls basketball tournament. Ashlee Smith’s double-double — 24 points, 10 rebounds — highlighted the second blowout in a row for the Storm. Skyview led Heritage by 30 points going into the final quarter Thursday and settled for a 15-point win to extend its season. Saturday, the Storm (22-3) accomplished their goal, reaching state for the second year in a row. “Pack your bags. You’re going back,” Skyview coach Steve Hook recalled of his post-game talk with his players. He kept the message brief. “They’re so pumped up, they wouldn’t listen to me any way,” he said. Indeed.

“I had the chills,” Smith said. “We are all so happy. Our senior year, we’re going out strong.” “It is so amazing,” added fellow senior Shelby Leverenz. “Everybody worked very hard. Each and every player stepped up, whether it was in practice or in games.” Everybody got to play again Saturday because the rout was on. Smith had 13 points at the half as Skyview built a 25-10 advantage. Redmond was held to 4-of-23 shooting in the half. On Thursday, Heritage made 3 of 27 shots in the first half against Skyview’s pressure. “We’ve played good defense all year long,” Hook said. “The effort was there. It’s been there all year long.”
Smith, who has signed with St. Mary’s College, is a known name in Southwest Washington. She usually has to battle two or three defenders. Not Saturday.
“Finally, I wasn’t double-teamed,” she said after going 8 for 12 from the floor and 8 of 9 from the free-throw line. “It was fun.” She also had a lot of help. The Mustangs feature a tall team, so instead of lobbing passes over defenders’ heads to Smith, the Skyview guards went low. “We had to change it up with the bounce passes,” Smith said, crediting the guards for finding her in the paint. “It was natural. They were always looking inside.”
Dayle Powell added 12 points for the Storm. Abby Olbrich finished with seven points and three assists. Kailee Oliver had five points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Courtney Martin led Redmond with 19 points. No one else scored more than four points for the Mustangs, who finished 14 for 55 from the floor. The Storm will find out today who they will face Wednesday in the opening round of the state tournament. Right now, they don’t care who it will be — the Storm will show up. “Just an amazing group of kids,” Hook said. “They’re always ready to play.”

Redmond - Kalina, Valentine 2, Jones 4, Martin 19, Egeberg, Petrie 2, Kruger 2, Parrott, Pratt, Simonson 3, Whitaker.
Skyview - Smith 24, Cowell 12, Olbrich 7, Leverenz 6, Oliver 5, Mukensnavl 2, Shelby 2, Adams, Conley, Hargrove, Johnson, Mason.

Redmond           8  2 11 11 - 32
Skyview          11 14 13 20 - 58
