Coach's Outlook 2010-2011

Redmond High School has a strong tradition of competitive girl's basketball. But with three different head coaches in three years, it has been tough to gain consistency and momentum. That's why this year the girls are going to get back to the basics of basketball. This season will be modeled by legendary female basketball coach Pat Summitt and her "Definite Dozen" system for success. Every day the girls wand coaching staff share thoughts about the definite dozen. This enables us to implement the ideals discussed during practice and in life. This has been a tremendous base for us in building teamwork:

  • respect yourself and other

  • take full responsibility

  • develop and demonstrate loyalty

  • learn to be a great competitor

  • discipline yourself so no one else has to

  • make hard work your passion

  • don't just work hard, work smart

  • put the team before yourself

  • make winning an attitude

  • be a competitor

We plan to play a fast paced game focused on tough man-to-man defense, fast break, and great teamwork.

This year our senior leadership comes from point guards Stacey Kimball, Makayla Walker, Hannah Lee, Taylor Kopak, and forwards Jordyn Ohrt and Erin Windham. Kimball is an excellent all around player who plays hard-nosed defense and has a knack for getting the ball in the basket. Walker is a defensive specialist who has great court awareness and really gets after it. Lee is an enthusiastic player who is a great team player and wors hard. Kopak has a great attitude and Ohrt has a court presence that the girls really seem to respond to. At 6'0" she is the tallest on the team and will be a strong inside presence offensively and defensively. Windham will also work the inside with her long arms and defensive tenacity.

Our junior players include point guards Lauren May, Makaela Hayward, and forwards Casey Della and Jessica Kinssies. May's heart and desire really make her a great competitor and she will enhance the team's intensity. Hayward has a wonderful ability to drive to the hoop and is always looking to score. Della is a savvy post player who works hard on defense and has an innate ability to work the block on offense. Kinssies will add strength to our inside with her offensive abilities and by getting rebounds.

Lastly, the Mustangs are excited to welcome sophomores Ali Jorgensen and Lauren Bogard. Jorgensen will be taking the point position. She has great court vision, works hard on both ends, and understands the game really well. Board will be playing a forward position but has the ability to shoot from the outside as well as post up inside. Both will be great additions to the team!
